Access to Markets

Access to Markets

2023 - 2025

The "Access to Markets" project aims to address the root causes of poor performance in markets relevant to small farmers in the coffee, onion, and honey value chain. The project seeks to generate improved livelihoods by developing solutions to the barriers to achieve maximum return and income from the value chains for the target crops for small farmers.

Furthermore, the project develops and applies quality standards and international benchmarks for the targeted crops and products regarding packaging, branding, and marketing to enhance their value.

The main pillars of this project are providing capacity building in business continuity and institutional building programs for MSMEs, modern agricultural practices for farmers and total quality management standards for all beneficiaries. The project's objectives include achieving the following:
•    Three quality standards developed/implemented and adopted by value chain actors.
•    Create or sustain 1,000 jobs (50% for youth and 30% for women at minimum).
•    Coffee traders/farmers, honey traders develop and use e-commerce solutions.
•    24 cooperatives/intermediary institutions and 100 MSMEs trained in new quality standards.
•    Registration and e-commerce solutions of 50 Micro-enterprises and 4 Institutions.
•    An increase of 20% in the value of products sold through the e-commerce solution.

The " Access to Markets " project, implemented by SMEPS, is a transformative step for the targeted sectors towards enhancing the economy of farmers, creating job opportunities, improving the quality and increasing the production of national products, and access to foreign markets, which directly contributes to the development of the national economy.
